A Condolence Meeting in Memory of Com. M. Rajan

A condolence meeting in memory of Polit-Bureau Member and Secretary, Kerala State Committee of MCPI(U) was held at Aluva in Ernakulam district of Kerala, in which hundreds of activists of MCPI(U) and leaders of other left parties and trade unions took part. Com. N. Parameswarm Potty, Central Committee member of MCPI(U) presided over the meeting. Com. T.S. Narayanan, Acting Secretary, Kerala State Committee of MCPI(U) welcomed the participants. Com. Kuldip Singh, General Secretary of MCPI(U) who specially came to participate in the meeting recalled the contribution of Com. Rajan to the left democratic and communist movement. He was one of the main leaders who along with Com. Cherian, helped to build MCPI(U) in Kerala and as such was one of the main founders of the party. Com. Rajan was for the unity of left and democratic forces to meet the challenges unleashed by the ruling classes on the working class. He also worked in NTUI (New Trade Union Initiative) which stands for unity and independence of working class irrespective of political affiliations. Com. Kuldip Singh described it a great loss to MCPI(U) and left movement as well as to the trade union movement in India. Com. Kuldip Singh also paid homage to Com. Rajan on behalf of Prof. Vijay Singh, a left intellectual and editor of “Revolutionary Democracy” a left oriented organ, in which Com. Rajan’s articles used to be published.

Com. M.M. Lawrence, prominent CPI(M) leader also paid homage to Com. Rajan describing him as a unique trade union leader, who worked for the unity of left movement in India.

Com. Gautam Modi, General Secretary and Com. D. Thankappan, former President of NTUI remembered his unforgettable work in NTUI and his demise at this critical time an irreparable loss to the trade union movement in general and NTUI in particular.

Com. E. George, Central Committee member ofMCPI(U) from Tamil Nadu, Com. T.K. Sudhir Kumar (SUCI), Com. Appukuttan Vallikummu (Journalist), Shri VP. George, State Secretary INTUC, Com. Santosh (RMP), Com. O.C. Baburaj (Cochin Shipyard Employees Union) and Com. P.K. Ramesan, President, Keezhemed Panchayat also paid homage to Com. Rajan on behalf of their respective parties and organizations.

Concluding the condolence meeting, Com. V.P. Narayana Pillai, area secretary of MCPI(U) expressed thanks to the people for participating in the condolence meeting.
