Letter on the Maruti Question

Proletarskaya Gazeta

To,

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India in the Russian Federation, Moscow, 105062, Vorontsovo Pole Street, 6-8, Embassy of the Republic of India.

On May 1, 2017, we sent you a letter protesting against the reprisals against workers of Maruti-Suzuki and, in particular, against the conviction to life imprisonment of thirteen workers’ activists on the grounds of workers’ justified unrest in the factory in July 2012. Such letter was delivered to you on May 16, 2017 with the mail notification of delivery (a copy of this letter is attached). Until now, we do not know of any reaction from any public authorities of the Republic of India. We assure you that on our part, measures will be taken to call to the progressive forces of different countries of the world to show class solidarity with the justified struggle of the oppressed masses of India and in face of the terror against the vanguard of fighters for the interests of the oppressed. We have fulfilled our promise through the publication (in Proletarskaya Gazeta No. 40) of material on the events at Maruti Suzuki factory in July 2012 and with the help of the electronic communication tools at our disposal. If no explanations regarding the measures that need to be taken within our requirements are given still, we will be compelled – following the principle of international proletarian solidarity – to bring the discussion of this issue to a higher international level.

We remind you that, in manifesting international class solidarity, we demand:

1. Immediate release of all workers of Maruti-Suzuki convicted on the grounds of unrest in July 2012, including those sentenced to life imprisonment.

2. To bring the owner and the administration of the Maruti-Suzuki company to criminal account for arbitrariness and class terror in relation to employees – primarily to workers – which resulted in unrest in the Maruti Suzuki factory and the consequences of this unrest.
